Roy Dale Johnson

Graveside service for Mr. Roy Dale Johnson, 73, of Goodwater, was Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the New Prospect Cemetery. Rev. Will Baker and Rev. Larry Cummings officiated.

Dale Johnson; a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend; passed away at his residence. Born with a heart full of joy and laughter, Dale’s presence was a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew him. His journey on earth came to a close, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Dale’s life was one marked by steadfast love and devotion to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sheryl Dean Royal Johnson of Goodwater, who was the absolute love of his life and his rock through thick and thin. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, support, and unwavering affection. His wife, Dean; children, Roy “Bubba” Dale Johnson Jr., and Misty J. (Christopher “Doc”) Baker; and grandchildren, Ashlyn Johnson, Madison Baker, and Toby Baker were his pride and joy. His adoration for them knew no bounds, and he instilled in them the values of kindness, humor, and faith. Dale’s light will continue to shine through his children and grandchildren,  who will carry on his legacy of love and joy.

Dale was a beloved brother to Beverly Johnson Hanners and Sheila Johnson Harman. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Danford Johnson; mother, Mary Jackie Johnson; sister, Jeanette Nelda Waldrop; and a cherished niece. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he never missed an opportunity to express his love for them.

He attended Benjamin Russell High School; Dale’s work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit led him to a successful career in trucking. For 49 years, he drove an 18-wheeler with pride and dedication. His passion for the open road culminated in the founding of DJ Trucking, which he owned and operated for 10 years. His commitment to his work was only surpassed by his commitment to his family and his faith.

Dale’s interests were as expansive as his heart. He cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren, whether it was at church, on a fishing trip, or simply enjoying the tranquility of the mountains. An avid fan of racing, Dale’s enthusiasm for dirt and drag cars, as well as NASCAR, was infectious. He found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, like working on word search puzzles, watching westerns from the comfort of his recliner, and making his family laugh. Dale never ended a conversation without telling his family “I Love You,” a testament to his loving nature.

Those who knew Dale will remember him as a man of faith, filled with a sense of humor that could lighten any room. Dale never met a stranger, and his ability to make others feel welcomed and valued was one of his most remarkable traits. His loving wife, Dean, his daughter Mimi, whom he adored, a role he embraced wholeheartedly.  His best friend Bubba and his “next best” son-in-law Doc will deeply miss the laughter and camaraderie they shared with Dale.

In every aspect of his life, Dale was loving, funny, and faith filled. His guiding principle was love-love for his family, love for his friends, and love for life itself. As we bid farewell to Dale Johnson, we do so with hearts full of gratitude for the time we were blessed to share with him. His memory will be a guiding light, a reminder to live with joy, to cherish our loved ones, and to always part with words of love.

He was an active member of Wayside Baptist Church and loved the Lord and his church family.

Dale’s life was a testament to the enduring power of a kind and generous spirit. As he reunites with those who have gone before him, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy of love will continue to inspire us all. Farewell, Dale, until we meet again.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Wayside Baptist Church.

During his ministry he served as an ordained minister, deacon, soloist, and teacher. He pastored four separate churches over a span of 46 years. His passion in ministerial service was to always serve, love, and honor the Lord, praise Him in song, pray over all things, and minister to others who did not know Jesus.

David loved spending time with his family. He loved to farm and work with his tractor and back-hoe. He loved to tinker in his shop on a rainy day. He loved reading and studying the Word of God. And he loved homemade vanilla ice cream and his life. He was very thankful for all of the blessings he received from the Lord.
