To my sisters:
Religion has been a big part of our life. Religion can cause people to become brainwashed, bigoted, hateful, greedy, sexual assaulters, abusers, or elitists. It can be far from loving all of God’s creatures. In 2023, there were more than 221 religion groups in the United States. Many of these churches I have never heard of and cannot find information on what they believe. Will they be rewarded tax payer money? We have too many children dying from committing suicide, gunshots and drugs. It is important to know what religious values are being taught in schools to our children. Make sure the School Choice Act meets your religious value.
How many private schools are in Coosa County? Also, we need to know what is being taught to our family members, and people who enter our homes, through cell phones, radio and television. Religion is a multimillion-dollar business and many religious leaders are controlling people’s lives without giving them knowledge on how to resolve conflict in a Godly manner. After you pay 10 percent of your salary, can you depend on the church if you need help? Are you at the mercy of other churches or organizations? Church to me is a group of believers who believe in a higher power you cannot see but you have no doubt of its power. Are you willing to drink “poison Kool-Aid” if your spiritual adviser asks you?
We need to stop hating people because someone told us this person is undesirable. How many LGBTQIA+ people do you know? They are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, uncles, aunts, and cousins. They are family members. How would Jesus treat them? They are not going anywhere, so do not let our prejudices cause us to be denied the chance to see God on judgment day. I have seen these people take care of a relative better than some straight religious people.
How many homeless people have you offered help and they refused? Some homeless people just want to be noticed and to tell their story. Many of us are a paycheck away from being homeless because of medical bills, loss of a job, unable to pay rent, or a bad investment. If the amount of money collected for poor people in foreign countries from Americans over the years were used to better those people’s lives, every person in these countries should be wealthy. There should not be an immigration problem with the amount of money collected.
A young Baptist minister once told us at a conference to stop sending money to TV evangelists. He stated, try calling these ministers when your child is sick, in jail, or need money to take care of your child. Take care of your children and people in your community. How many of our ministers have come to our homes for a simple visit?
When my husband was on an assignment out of the country, I lived in a state where I did not know anyone. I found myself in private prayer (praying in a closet or room with only you and God). One day a lady walking down the street stopped me and had a conversation with me outside of my house. Every day she checked on me as she walked.
One day she told me her life story. I did not know what to say. She was the person the church taught me to avoid. I could not because she was the one person who checked on me every day. One day two ladies holier than thou knocked on my door; they told me this lady had lost custody of her children, had a history of drug charges and was a lady of the evening. I thanked them in my Southern voice and closed the door. There was rage in my heart.
I had a conversation with God and I thanked Him for sending this lady of the evening in my life. She helped me to have the strength to get up every morning and walked my child to school. She asked me every day if I needed anything. My Christian neighbors who went to church every Wednesday and Sunday never opened their mouths to speak to me until this day, nor did they invite me to church.
This young Baptist minister also told us God will send you help in strange ways if you stay in private prayer: a thought, a person, a song, or an event. Once this lady entered my life, I was offered a job which could be difficult if you are a military wife. I found a religious friend, a church and my feeling of loss of community was filled. Just as this lady of the evening came in my life she left. She went back home to reclaim her children. I pray that something I said helped her because this troubled soul helped me. I thank God for her.
We need to keep GOD in the center of our lives, pray for ourselves, pray sincerely for others, and think about what we value. GODLY people need to teach their children to be GODLY.
When a child is born, the woman endures extreme pain; the baby enters this world after breathing the breath of life and screaming. They are traumatized because we push and squeeze them through a narrow path. We need to continue pushing and squeezing them as they grow. They do not have to be medicated, feel hopelessness, or react to anger to relieve pain. Tell them some pain must be endured to have a healthy mind, body and soul.
“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13
Sincerely,
Lattie Hardy
