I hope everyone had a great Fourth holiday. I enjoyed extended celebrations with family and friends. Happy birthday to all celebrating this month, including me! I love having a birthday considering the alternative, just don’t like getting older. I saw a saying on Facebook, “You know you’re getting old when you can see gray hairs in your children’s hair!” So true.
Richville Bingo night had a great turnout with more than 40 present. All had an enjoyable time. The next Bingo is August 5 at 6:30 p.m. This will be the last one until football season is over.
They have their Labor Day Boston butts for sale with pickup on September 2. They are delicious, so contact a member of the fire department to get on the list. They only cook what they presale, so don’t delay.
Concord Baptist Church VBS continues tonight and ends on Saturday. Sardis Baptist Church youth have been busy this week with community service. I’m sure all the recipients appreciate the help.
Providence Baptist Church had a great Family Fun Night with good attendance. Plans are being made to possibly schedule another before the end of summer. We will be voting Sunday on a candidate for pastor. Please be in prayer that the “Lord’s will” will be shown through this vote.
The Richville Neighborhood Watch is reorganizing with their first meeting planned to be held in August. A definite date has not been set yet, but hopefully by next week I can report more information.
The Coosa County Historical Society will meet on July 30 at the Rockford Methodist Church at 2 p.m. You don’t have to be a member to attend. We are making plans for the coming year. So, come out and hear what we have planned. Also, the Old Rock Jail will be open this Sunday from 2 to 4.
My scripture this week is Romans 8:18, which reads, “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
To me this says that regardless of what we endure here on earth, Christ gives us the “hope” to continue. That hope is a promise of eternal life and glory if we believe in Him. Christians during that time were often persecuted for their faith. While most of us today don’t face death, we do encounter hardships by following Christ. Everything we encounter God uses for His good and our benefit. God sees our pain, but He is there with us until we leave this earth for heaven.
There have been several deaths connected to our community in the past week. So, be in prayer for the Collins’, Tillery and Holman families. There are several others in our community that are not feeling well, so please pray for their healing in God’s will, as well. God knows their names and needs.
