Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
I’ve been in a funk lately, feeling a bit demoralized and finding it difficult to be motivated to do much. Reminds me of a book I read way back in my early twenties titled “The 5 Minute Manager” which talked about what not to do, as well as to do with people, and one was titled “Leave Alone and Zap.”
Issues need to be addressed in a timely and consistent manner, otherwise it just creates more issues. This is true with employees, partners, children, neighbors. Address the issues in a diplomatic manner as they occur; do not let it go on and fester then zap them with it.
I was able to get a few things done around the homestead like mowing, weed eating, cleaning the barn, looking for missing and lost animals, and find that my one guinea hen has nested. We sure do hope this nest makes it to hatching; we miss having babies on the farm.
The geese were nesting, but a raccoon raided their nest while we were out of town. One of the foundation guys found 20 empty shells in the crawl space, so need to fix that entry point so that pests can’t get under there.
We are still getting quotes on the farmhouse foundation, but looks like making it right will cost half of the overall renovation budget. I guess we will have to postpone some of the renovations because without a good foundation anything else we do will just end up being wasted money. Same goes for life in general, build a solid foundation first for future success.
The Coosa County Republican Party is bringing their meetings to the people since many are not able to drive to Rockford, and their next meeting, Monday, June 26, is being held in Equality at the old fire department community center. Refreshments are at 6 p.m. and meeting at 6:30 p.m. Come meet your 2024 candidates, speak with local officials, and listen to guest speaker Sen. Clyde Chambliss.
Equality Performing Arts Center (EPAC) has a performance by Sydni Sikes tonight, June 24. Sydni is from Lapine, Alabama, and vocalist for Montgomery’s Full Moon Band.
While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. The EPAC provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn.
July 1 is the “EVFD First Saturday” fundraising event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you can, please consider donating a baked good for the bake sale. Volunteers are welcome to help with all the activities. Otherwise please come and purchase, or donate, and fellowship with the folks that keep our community safe. Also, everyone is welcome to attend their first and third Monday training meetings, even if only to just watch the firefighters do their training.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; call or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
