Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
With our summer heat and this week’s higher humidity with some much-needed spotty, popup showers (but better than drought) my utility bill is getting a bit pricey. Time to get more work done on the house renovation so that weather changes don’t impact my utility bill so dramatically with good insulation and added solar panels.
I have the structural engineer’s report, so I contacted a foundation subject matter expert to get an estimate. While waiting on the experts I did have some of the porch furniture painted, and I sanded and stained a pair of rocking chairs and plan on staining the porch swing to match. So other than the trim paint being finished the front of the house is looking much better.
On the farm side I have another missing animal, this time a lovely young cat named Ellie Mae who is all black except for a white patch on her chest. She is a very sweet rescue kitten and last seen a week ago playing on the fence with another rescue cat named Jeanie.
Ginger, yet another rescue cat on the farm, has been crying for several days. She and Ellie Mae were close friends. I hope she is just lost and will be home soon as she is missed by us all. But I am also still waiting for the return of Ms. Laceyfeathers, as I do hold out hope for miracles.
The Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting is Thursday, June 22, at 6:30 p.m. Come and hear what is happening in the community, as well as enjoy some food and fellowship. Bring a dish to pass if you wish, but not mandatory or expected. We will be discussing the design of a new neighborhood watch sign, as well has other hot community topics.
Jenny’s General is planning some changes. No major renovation yet, but some rearrangements and new product lines being added soon. But long term still trying to get the septic system moved and upgraded so that the building can be expanded and renovated to include a small deli bar to serve the community. Again, I have hope in miracles happening.
Equality Performing Arts Center (EPAC) has Karaoke tonight Friday, June 16, 7-9 p.m. Next Friday, June 23, is a performance by Sydni Sikes. Sydni is from Lapine, Alabama, and vocalist for Montgomery’s Full Moon Band.
While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. The EPAC provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; call or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
