In My Humble Opinion
Jodi McDade
A few weeks ago I mentioned that the state of affairs in our country was pushing me to shine up my “Conspiracy Theorist” hat. Well, I’m now getting the creases pressed down and making sure it is ready to go.
Too many things are happening all at once that have been just below the surface for a long time. Every day we are hit by another crisis of one kind or another, and I’m not sure which one will be the final blow that takes us down. It’s like being in a submarine 1,000 feet below the surface and having depth charges dropped all around us every few minutes.
I really don’t know where to start. Banks are failing; China and Russia are working together; our infrastructure is falling apart; Chinese nationals are now pouring over our borders; the White House still claims that our border is “secure;” Americans are being kidnapped and murdered by cartels in Mexico; the president of Mexico is now threatening us; and a George Soros supported DA is trying to indict former President Donald Trump for misspending campaign funds (just like Hillary, AOC and many others have been accused of but never charged).
It’s really like a bad movie mixing so many plots that we just can’t keep up or figure out from where the next hit will come. Any one of the above events is bad on its own merit, but when you put them – and many others – together, how do we fend them off?
President Biden has issued his first veto of a bipartisan (supported by both parties) bill that would have prevented a new Labor Department rule that investment companies would be allowed to “consider ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance) issues” in how they manage OUR retirement investments rather than the rate of return on investment that is currently the standard guideline. So now whoever your plan manager is can make his/her own decision on how to invest YOUR money based on their own personal opinions and choices.
The stock market is going up and down minute by minute right now because of the banks that have already failed and the ones who may fail next. They are being bailed out by other bank groups, but that doesn’t improve the financial outlook for investors.
In the free market world, investors would be looking at where to invest the money they manage to get their clients the best deals possible. But now, if they personally like a new, unproven company that is starting a new ice cream chain, they can invest your money on it instead of a long-standing successful ice cream company that has shown at least a stable financial standing for years.
It’s bad enough that our working income is being eaten alive by the increase in the price of food and other necessities of life. Now, the money we have been working hard to save for retirement will be further reduced by legal bad management practices. And remember, Democrats were even opposed to this, but President Biden didn’t listen to them either!
The security of our country is in even more jeopardy with the new buddy system being entered into between China and Russia. By bailing out Russia from their war against Ukraine, China will now have something to hold over Russia’s head when they decide to make their move on Taiwan – and thereby the United States. China already holds billions of dollars of our debt because that’s where we have gone for years to borrow money to pay the interest on the money we already owe them.
We are indebted to them for most of our pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, household goods, parts for all types of goods, and they have been buying our land and properties for years. They could take us down in a matter of minutes, and there would be nothing we could do. We are bought and paid for.
I know many of you don’t want to listen to the news because it is just too depressing – and I agree. But, if we don’t understand a threat we can’t try to prepare for it or even prevent it. This is where our right to vote becomes so very important. It is up to US to make our voices heard by electing leaders who have the same vision we do.
By not voting, you are supporting the leaders with whom you do not agree. I’m not sure what shape we will be in by the time of our next election in 2024, but we need to WAKE UP because this could very well be our last free election.
Warnings – don’t go to Mexico; keep a watch on your bank accounts and retirement accounts; watch your backs and those of your relatives; complain to your elected officials – non-stop; and BUY AMERICAN if you can find it.
Until the new crisis of next week!
