With the recent tornado that passed through here about three weeks ago, our community had more than 55 homes damaged or destroyed. Tomorrow, on Saturday, February 11, at 9 a.m. as many volunteers as possible are needed for a “cleanup day” to help some of the local tornado victims.
The work will consist mainly with picking up trash, debris, limbs, and looking for lost items, but anyone who would be willing to bring their chainsaw and do some cutting would also be appreciated. Volunteers will meet at the Volunteer Command Center at Rehobeth Methodist Church, 664 County Road 18 near Equality. Those who wish to sign-up to help should call 211 and sign up over the phone.
Life in the southeast corner of Coosa County is beginning to return to normal for some of us. The “Rodger’s Shrubbery” garden center had lost the cover to their greenhouse in the high winds, and we had to hire a bucket truck and its operator in order to get the 40×80-foot heavy sheet plastic mounted, working well into the dark to get it secured.
Even though I have a fear of heights, I managed to climb the scaffolding to secure the front of the roof. The new roof is clear, and not only looks prettier, it should be better for the plants than the previous white plastic installed by the prior owners.
At our “Williamson Way” farm, we have been working on getting the farmhouse ready for its upcoming renovation. While I am excited to see the restoration come to fruition, my husband, Rodger, is second guessing his suggestions for the paint scheme. I believe that if we were to simply flip-flop two of the colors, he might be somewhat happier.
Tonight, Friday, February 10, at the EPAC is “Open Mic” night from 7 to 9 p.m. Local musicians will each be offered time on stage to perform. This is family friendly and open free of charge to the community.
Anyone, regardless of age or skill level, can sign up to perform, or you can simply enjoy a night out for free, without having to drive all the way to Alexander City, Wetumpka, or further.
Next Friday, February 17, is “Karaoke Night,” where anyone can sing along with the music and lyrics. It is fun entertainment, and did we mention that it is FREE.
