Some people believe God is a million miles away from them. It’s simply not true. God knows every detailed aspect of our existence. He knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows our yesterday, today and future.
He knows our physical state. He knows our spiritual condition. He knows our emotional whereabouts.
For that matter, He knows the very number of hairs on our head.
With someone like me, who is follicly challenged, that number is on a downward slippery slope.
David was simply in awe of God when contemplating the complexity and intricacy of David’s own creation. When meditating upon it, all David could do was worship God.
“For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book, all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet were none of them. How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them!” – Psalm 139:13-17.
How amazing is God? He knew Jeremiah before Jeremiah was created!
“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee,” – Jeremiah 1:5.
If knowing every facet of us wasn’t enough, God took on the flesh of man so He could redeem us through His blood for remission of sin and a personal relationship with Him.
In his humanity, Jesus perfectly identifies with us. He knows what we’re going through! He can help in every situation. In fact, He wants to see us through.
God truly isn’t a million miles from us. He’s always right there to converse and console. He wants to be involved in every aspect of our lives — if we’ll let Him.
God has the solution for every situation. He desires a personal relationship with us. The Creator wants to commune with those He’s created. His desire is to help us, protect us, provide for us, and lead us to Him for eternity.
Paul was perplexed and troubled when witnessing the Greeks’ worship in Athens. He addressed it through a preaching platform at Mars’ hill.
“…I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD…” – Acts 17:22,23
The unknown God? That is the furthest thing from the truth. God desperately wants to be known. He has done everything possible – He gave His only begotten Son – so we could know Him personally and intimately.
That “unknown God” thinking disturbed Paul because Paul had a wonderful relationship with God. He told them they were falsely worshiping God.
“Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.” – Acts 17:23
Paul told them that God is the creator of all things and is not worshiped with men’s hands, “as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things.” (Acts 17:25)
The next verse reveals God has determined the times before appointed and the bounds of humans’ habitation for a purpose. It is so we can find Him. He’s not a million miles away. He’s right here.
“That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him, we live, and move and have our being…” – Acts 17:27,28
Jesus stands at the door of our hearts and knocks. If we respond, we find the key to life.
