The Gospel Truth
Stay focused
In the gospel of Matthew, in the fourteenth chapter, Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side while he dismissed the crowd.
Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the water. When the disciples saw him, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.
Take courage! Jesus said, “It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
Then Peter asks a question, “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water.”
The Lord gave Peter permission to come to Him on the water.
Peter steps out of the boat onto the water walking toward Jesus.
As long as he was focused, he was on his way to Jesus.
We live in a world where we are more focused on things around us than on the Lord.
When we focus our attention on the Lord, we won’t be able to see the trouble around us.
Colossians 3:2 reads, “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”
Set your mind on the things of God and not on earthly things.
Sometimes it can become very difficult to stay focused when there is so much happening around you.
That is why we need to strive to put Heaven’s priorities in our daily practice. When we do that, it is then that we are able to stay focused.
Peter would have made it to the Lord walking on the water, had he stayed focused on the Lord.
But Peter allows things around him to get his attention, causing him to sink.
Peter may have been a good swimmer, but he still needed the Lord to save him from drowning.
So, I want to encourage you today by leaving you with a thought. If you want to make it to the Kingdom of God, you must stay focused on the Lord.
