Robert James Moon

Home-going celebration for Mr. Robert James Moon was held February 8 at Wright’s Funeral Home in Alexander City with Pastor Christopher Todd serving as eulogist.

Mr. Moon was born on April 7, 1945, to the late Mr. G.W. and Bessie M. Moon in Kellyton. He was raised by Lucille Judkins from the time he was six weeks old. Each preceded him in death. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. John A.M.E. of Socopatoy.

Mr. Moon attended and was a proud 1965 graduate of J.D. Thompson High School in the Cottage Grove Community. After high school he joined the U.S. Army and served for four years. Those four years included service on the Berlin Wall. After his Army enlistment he became a National Guardsman and served with the 1208 Water Purification/123 S&S Unit in Goodwater. His National Guard career included deployments in various countries, Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He retired after 33 honorable years of service. It was during Robert’s military tenure that he earned his beloved nickname “Papa Rock.”

Mr. Moon married the love of his life, Mazelle Moon, on October 30, 1976. During their 44-year union, Robert joined the New Home Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. His love for the Savior was shown in his faithful service as an usher, male chorus member and Sunday school and Men’s Discipleship group attendant. Brother Moon was a Prince Hall Mason and longtime member of Blue Mountain Lodge 786 in Goodwater.

Our cherished husband, father and “Paw Paw” transitioned from this world to God’s Presence on February 3, 2021, at Baptist South Medical Center in Montgomery.
