Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Jenny’s General Store still sells herbs, spices, essential oils, supplements, healthy drinks, cheap can soft drinks, and moving and packing supplies and U-Haul trucks and trailer rentals. We are coming into cold and flu season so if you need to boost your immune system Jenny’s has elderberries and echinacea.
I have been getting more help from both my daughter and son, so I feel like things are moving forward a bit quicker at the homestead. And with the cooler weather I started some cleanup and reorganization on the outside.
A popup storm on Sunday gave us needed rain, but the high gusts of wind did cause my little carport to fly across the front yard and almost hop the fence. After the rain stopped my son did help me to get it set up, and I found some larger stakes to secure it down better. I am using this tarp-covered carport to restore the original trim and fireplace mantels for the house as the porch is too cluttered and we don’t have a garage.
Robby is back in downtown Equality, and folks are honking once again. He is back to letting me know if the mail carrier stops at my mailbox or drives on past. He also lends a hand with the trash pickup by lining up all the cans so the truck can pick them up easily.
It was too quiet with him at home this summer, and it is nice to hear all the folks greeting him with their gentle beep, beep, beep. Please no long, hard honks because those are for emergency vehicle awareness like a car pulling out in front of traffic or an animal in or near the road.
The Equality quilting group did a class to make a patriotic quilt top. There were a couple of technical issues that prevented everyone from finishing their quilt top in one day, and it was a more complicated pattern.
We would like to do another quilt workshop with a simpler to assemble quilt top, but a nice design. I will be putting together cut sheets so anyone that would like to join can purchase the material of their choice and come join us to cut and sew a quilt top. Date not set yet, but coming soon.
Community activities that are available in the Equality and Nixburg area:
- The Equality quilting group meets every Monday evening from 6 to 8 at Jenny’s General Store. We do more than quilt; some embroider, crochet and other needle arts. And yes, we still meet every week!
- Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church’s yard sale is held most Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. Address is 5152 Ala. Hwy. 9 in case you haven’t noticed it driving in Nixburg.
- Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every Friday starting at 10 a.m.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-794-3801 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
