On June 28, at approximately 4 a.m., the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) Southern Region K-9 Unit received a request for assistance from the Conecuh County Sheriff’s Office.
Suspect Gregory Watkins had fled on foot from the Conecuh County Jail following an attempted contraband drop. K-9 officers responded and deployed their tracking dogs.
A track was established, and Watkins was located and apprehended. He was turned over to Conecuh
County deputies, arrested and charged with felony attempting to elude, second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, two counts of unlawful possession of controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime, and second-degree conspiracy to promote prison contraband.
ADOC Commissioner Greg Lovelace said, “The ADOC is often assisted by local law enforcement
agencies and is happy to return that favor. Interagency partnerships are critical to the success of law
enforcement operations.”
