A suspicious vehicle ultimately resulted in the arrest of a Goodwater man on a drug-related charge recently.
Chief Deputy Scott Hammond reported that on May 17, Deputy Kelley was conducting extra patrol of the Texaco station on U.S. Highway 280 in Kellyton when he observed a vehicle parked in the parking lot while the business was closed.
When he approached the vehicle to check on the driver, Kelley smelled an odor of alcohol and observed that the driver had bloodshot eyes.
Kelley asked the driver if he had anything on him, and he advised Kelley that he had marijuana. Kelley proceeded to retrieve a baggy of a green leafy substance that smelled of marijuana from the driver’s front pocket.
Kelley asked the driver to conduct field sobriety tests, and the driver failed all tests given.
Desmond Dejuan Allen, 33 years old, was arrested and charged with second-degree possession of marijuana.
His bond was set at $2,500. He was released on bond on May 18 to await trial.
Anyone who suspects or observes illegal activity is asked to report it to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4922 or online at www.coosacountyso.org. Anonymous tips are also welcome.
