Central of Coosa County Varsity Cougars easily dispatched Lanett last Friday, 15-1.
Central jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Williams drew a walk, scoring one run; Chapman was struck by a pitch, driving in a run; Self drew a walk, scoring one run; and Luke doubled, scoring two runs.
Central added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Wickersham doubled, as well as the third inning after Tindall walked, each scoring one run.
Wickersham earned the win for Central. The hurler gave up one hit and zero runs over one inning, striking out two and walking none. Self, Cosby and Franklin each came in on relief for Central and shutdown Lanett.
Luke, Cosby, Wickersham, Bryant, Chapman, and Stevens each collected one hit for Central. Luke and Cosby each drove in two runs for Central.
The Cougars had patience at the plate, piling up 10 walks for the game. Self and Cosby led the team with two bases on balls each.
Self threw an immaculate inning in the fifth, striking out the side on nine pitches. Cosby, Wickersham and Chapman each stole multiple bases for Central. The Cougars ran wild on the base paths, amassing 11 stolen bases for the game.
