Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Lots going on right now, and not all of it is wonderful. I was driving up to Cullman to help my son when the van broke down. It is 20 years old, and putting more money in it right now doesn’t make sense so we went car shopping. Something that sounds good, but with my recent job change and Jenny’s General not having good sales revenue it is very stressful for me.
Rodger has wanted a Jeep, and we need a vehicle that can tow, so we got the Jeep Gladiator to meet all the wants and needs. I just pray it is a good vehicle in the long run because as a cost analyst it has to last a very long time with low maintenance costs to fit what I call a good buy.
I have identified the predator that has been attacking our birds, a red fox that comes from the woods across the road. I spotted it one morning coming around the house from our barn. They are a bit tricky to catch in a live trap, so I have to up my game.
One piece of advice to get them to move is to urinate on their den, so wonder if the neighbors mind if I send the boys out on a fox den hunt and have them urinate on every hole they find. But I may be putting chicken wire on the back of our picket fence as a deterrent, adding electric fencing around the birds, and scrubbing the human smell off the live trap and disguising it with leaves and branches and baiting it well with raw chicken pieces and eggs.
But one way or another I have to deal with this menace as it has already killed two nesting turkeys and is most likely responsible for the other missing turkeys, chickens and ducks this spring.
Once again, the EVFD will be selling butts/ribs for Memorial Day weekend. Reserve yours today by contacting Jackie at 256-786-1169 or Jean at 256-537-1884. Call today because EVFD has sold out in the last few years, and as you know, it’s really good! I have ordered mine and can’t wait to get it.
The Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting is Thursday, May 22. Bring a dish to pass or a donation for the meal we all know Dave Dial will be making for us all. It is time to hear from the Sheriff’s Office, volunteer fire department and other local groups and activities.
Vintage Vibe will be playing at Coosa Live this month on Friday, May 23, from 7 to 9. We are hoping for another great crowd to show up and enjoy some live music. This band has had a number of gigs around the area with great success, so come on out and enjoy an evening supporting a local business and local band.
I know many get home after a long work week and find it hard to leave the house again, but a short drive to just show your support would mean a lot for us, plus you don’t have to stay the whole event. Thank you for your support.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
