Equality & NIxburg News

I am still working in the yard; having my rare free time filled with storms is not helping me get things accomplished. And now we’re hearing that more storms are forecast for the weekend.
We were able to get 90% of the house painted before returning the lift. But over the seven days we had it the weather prevented us from using it except for three days. We still need to paint the trim color, but at least the wood is covered.
The start of the 2025 season of Equality Volunteer Fire Department Fundraiser First Saturday events resulted in low numbers, which I hope is not an indication of this season’s participation. We depend on our Volunteer Fire Department so continued participation benefits us all in many ways. It is also a nice way to stay connected with our community.
Spring is here and Coosa Fancy Organic Farm is open for its 2025 spring CSA. CSA stands for “Community Supported Agriculture.” This system offers customers the opportunity to support their local farms and producers via an initial buy-in price, which is then returned through weekly shares of fresh produce. This helps the farm by providing the initial capital needed for operation costs.
In the early spring, members can expect plenty of nourishing fresh lettuces, leafy greens (such as arugula, their popular Asian greens mix and kale), harukei turnips, different varieties of radishes, carrots, and broccolini. As the season continues, you can begin to expect to see foods such as their super popular sashimi cucumbers, cherry and heirloom tomatoes and more!
Help support Coosa Fancy and enjoy 10 weeks of freshly harvested, organically grown seasonal produce! Spring 2025 Season begins April 5.
Coosa County Live will continue with some events such as Open Mic Night, but performers are unwilling to book as the attendance has been dismal at best. Karaoke may go away since the latest attendance has been a lovely young couple who wished others had joined in.
Open Mic is tonight, March 14, from 7–9 p.m., and the house band Vintage Vibe will be playing whether you show up or not. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. Coosa Live provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
This month’s Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting will be on March 27 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. We had great attendance last week, as well as a great dinner of pork chops, chicken, fish, beans, collards, potato salad, fried okra, and many desserts. Dave Dial really brings it together as a great community meal, and this month some have asked for donations to help with all his efforts. Please join us this month for community updates, fellowship and a great meal.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
