Oh, this warm weather has got me on a gardening itch, but I have resisted – just too early. There will be another freeze, and the beneficial bugs have not yet woken up, so need to just leave the leaves and yard debris alone just a bit longer. I did start on another room in the house and have it pretty much cleared out and will start hanging drywall this weekend with some help from some friends.
Going back to the office is on hold for a few months as there is no space, and they must ask Congress for more money to build, renovate, or rent building space, then put in all the network infrastructure, cubes, desks, lighting, etc. to make space for many of us.
So much for cost savings that was found over the past five years. Now lots of spending will have to happen in order to make space and move us from our country homes back to the cities; well the cities will get all the money, and country folks lose out again.
There are plans to replace the roof on Jenny’s General and get it in good repair. It will remain open by appointment Monday through Wednesday, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays for the time being. But if an interested buyer comes by with a good offer it will be sold right away. Otherwise when I return to the city and work in an office it will just sit empty as it did before I purchased the building.
With spring right on the doorstep Coosa Fancy Organic Farm is open for their 2025 spring CSA. CSA stands for “Community Supported Agriculture.” This system offers customers the opportunity to support their local farms and producers via an initial buy-in price, which is then returned through weekly shares of fresh produce. This helps the farm by providing the initial capital needed for operation costs.
In the early Spring, members can expect plenty of nourishing fresh lettuces, leafy greens (such as arugula, their popular Asian greens mix and kale), harukei turnips, different varieties of radishes, carrots, and broccolini.
As the season continues, you can begin to expect to see foods such as Coosa Fancy’s super popular sashimi cucumbers, cherry and heirloom tomatoes and more! Help support Coosa Fancy and enjoy 10 weeks of freshly harvested, organically grown seasonal produce! Spring 2025 Season begins April 5.
Coosa County Live has Open Mic Night today, February 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. Coosa Live provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
The Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held Thursday, February 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the Equality Fire Department Lodge Hall building. Please join the community in food and fellowship while getting the sheriff’s report and sharing safety information.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
