Following a daytime event of vendors and food trucks, area residents and guests flocked to downtown Rockford Saturday evening to enjoy the town’s annual Christmas parade.

Judge of Probate Richard Dean was the master of ceremonies for the event, with 33 participants involved in this year’s parade.

Participants included an array of floats, vehicles, the Central High School marching band, volunteer fire departments, Coosa County EMS, antique vehicles, and equines. Area churches and organizations, as well as businesses located outside of the county, took part in this year’s Rockford parade.

Ultimately there were six winners in the parade float category. The Coosa County Sheriff’s Office won first place and $150 for its “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” float, complete with a dancing Elvis.

Henderson Towing’s float won second place and $100. There was a four-way tie for third place with Sardis Baptist Church, Eastaboga Manor Haunted Attraction, New Providence Baptist Church, and Central High School’s Key Club each winning $75.

Two individuals and one business won Best in Car Show, with each winner receiving a trophy.

First place went to David Vincent with his 1940 Buick Special, second place went to James Simmons with his 1962 Chevrolet SS convertible, and third place went to Henderson Towing for its “Tow Mater” decorated truck.

In addition to the parade participants and winners, following the parade Mayor Scott White announced the winners of the town’s decorating contest, which had five entries.

Those who won the decorating contest were Rebecca Biernesser, winning first place and $150; Alabama One Credit Union in third place and winning $100 and Doris and Ken Raison in third place, winning $75.

The Town of Rockford expressed its gratitude to all those who helped make the event such a success, from those who participated to those who attended.
