An individual who was initially found unresponsive near a Coosa County gas station was ultimately arrested on a drug-related charge Monday.
On December 16, while Deputy Payton was on routine patrol, he responded to the Exxon station on U.S. Highway 280 for a call regarding an unresponsive person laying in the grass near the station.
Payton made contact with the individual, who finally woke up. The individual seemed to be very confused and possibly under the influence of something.
The individual, identified as James Kapen Colley, had a backpack with him, and Payton received consent to search it.
Inside the backpack he found a small jar containing a crystal-like substance that appeared to be methamphetamine.
Colley, 24 years old, of New Site, was arrested the same day and charged with possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
Colley’s bond was set at $2,500. As of press time he remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
Anyone who observes or suspects illegal activity is encouraged to report it to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4922 or online at www.coosacountyso.org. Anonymous tips are also welcome.
