In My Humble Opinion
Jodi McDade
I hope everyone will be careful today since it is a Friday the thirteenth! Not that I am overly superstitious, but I would rather be safe than sorry.
Old wives’ tales die hard and may not be around within younger generations these days, but for us older folks we grew up with them. I still try not to step on the cracks in the sidewalk because, even though she is not alive, I don’t want to break my mother’s back. When I walk on one side of a post and who I am with walks on the other side of it, I say “bread and butter.” I don’t even know why I do that, but it was another thing my mama taught me!
I’m really getting excited about next year. I’m looking forward to real law, order and justice being restored and our judicial system not being used for personal vendettas and baseless accusations. I’m extremely disappointed in the current president pardoning his son from crimes he pleaded guilty to. And the idea that he might pardon people who have not even been charged with crimes is crazy!
It seems to me that is an admission that these people have committed some type of illegal activity that has been swept under the rug up until now. His brother Jim, his daughter-in-law Hallie, other family members, and members of Congress involved in the January 6 inquiries are also being discussed for potential pardons. This would mean that, even if they are investigated and found to have broken laws, they could not be prosecuted or convicted. Does that sound legitimate to you? What makes them deserving of such special consideration?
There have been too many court cases used to stir up the media just to keep us from paying attention to the important things that have been going on behind the scenes. Instead of prosecuting REAL criminals, district attorneys around the country have come up with charges against the former president, his supporters and people who protested the election results of 2016.
Keep in mind, during the riots and burning down cities after the deaths of George Floyd and Michael Brown, and the BLM protests, there were no major arrests made. Even Kamala Harris helped bail out people who were arrested. I go back to the election of Barack Obama (who I voted for) when we were so hopeful of real equality of the races and the disappointment of how that didn’t happen.
I’ve been very encouraged with so many minority voters turning to Donald Trump and the policies he is going to bring to truly help all people. He wants to see the economy turn around so that none of us is having to pay the exorbitant prices at the grocery store or the gas station. He wants to see the gangs and drug dealers arrested, charged and convicted of the crimes they are committing. He wants to see the illegal immigrants who have been allowed to come into our country and commit murders, rapes and terror on Americans be either subjected to our legal system OR removed from our country to never return.
Yes, our country was based on immigration – LEGAL immigration. We want people from other countries to come here to join us as Americans – not to live off our welfare system, educational system and medical system. We want them to contribute to the communities they move into – not live a life of lies and fear of deportation.
I remember the days when America was called a “melting pot” because so many people came and blended in with our population. Now, we are like a “tossed salad” because the illegal immigrants are all different and have not blended into our culture, but try to maintain the culture of the countries they came from.
Wouldn’t it be great to all get along based on the things we have in common, but also overlook the things we might not agree on? And this is not based on race or gender only – this includes everyone! I realize I have on my Pollyanna glasses (young people, look it up!) and want to see only the good in people. I was raised that way and refuse to give it up.
And I still think we ALL have more in common than the things we disagree on. We want a safe environment to live in and raise families. We want to be able to not live in fear. We want to have an educational system that will provide our children with the ability to be successful in life. We want the government to get out of our wallets and let us keep the money we earn.
Please spend some time this Christmas season thinking about the world around us and praying for peace. I’m not sure we will ever truly end conflicts until Jesus returns to call His people home. But we still should try our best to get along.
Remember the Rockford Christmas activities tomorrow and come spend some time with your neighbors! God bless…
