A Coosa County man and woman, both residing near the Stewartville community, were arrested Tuesday in relation to an investigation that began in October.
On October 9, Coosa County Department of Human Resources began an investigation into two individuals for potential drug use around a juvenile.
On November 13, a hair sample was taken from the child, and a specimen test was conducted. On November 21, that test came back positive for methamphetamine, marijuana/THC and marijuana metabolites.
Chief Deputy Scott Hammond reported that on November 18, both subjects tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana.
Ultimately, after nearly two months, the investigation resulted in the arrests of Matthew Jackson Childress and Crystal Marie Harrelson. Both were arrested on Tuesday, December 3, and charged with chemical endangerment of a child.
Childress, 39 years old, and Harrelson, 42 years old, each had their bond set at $5,000. As of press time, both remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
Harrelson was previously arrested in Coosa County and charged with chemical endangerment of a child in December of 2022, as well.
Anyone who suspects or observes illegal activity is encouraged to report it to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4922 or online at www.coosacountyso.org. Anonymous tips are also welcome.
