Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Please continue to pray for all those that were affected by Hurricane Helene, as well as those affected by Hurricane Milton. All those areas affected are going to take several months to recover, with some never recovering from the destruction.
Shout out to Central football team! They won their first game of the season on Homecoming. They have struggled this year with a new coach, but they haven’t given up. Coach Flowers is doing a great job.
The Coosa County Historical Society will meet on Sunday, October 27, at 2 p.m. at the Rockford Senior Center. Refreshments will be furnished by members. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The next Richville Volunteer Fire Department Bingo will be on Saturday, November 2, at 6:30 p.m. Mark your calendar and make plans to attend.
Sardis Baptist Church will have their Fall Festival on Sunday, October 27, beginning at 4 p.m. They will have games, food, cake walks, and hayrides. This is a free event with fun for every age. All are welcome.
Providence Baptist Church will have Pastor Appreciation Day this Sunday, October 20. We will also celebrate his one-year anniversary as pastor of our church. A fellowship meal will follow the service.
I encourage all churches to honor and recognize your pastor this month if you haven’t already or schedule it for another time.
Pastor/Clergy Appreciation Month was created to thank those that fulfill the ministry role in churches. Being a minister is a calling. A pastor is more than just reporting to work then checking out at the end of a shift; it’s a 24/7/365 on-call job. Focus on the Family, a Christian organization, in 1994, named October as Pastor Appreciation Month to promote a specific time of the year to honor and financially support ministers. It has grown in popularity over the years with churches of many faiths and religions recognizing the people who perform ministry roles in their churches.
My Bible verses this week are about appreciation for the ministry. Colossians 4:2-4 read, “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.”
We should be thankful for our pastors, but also pray for them. However, we as Christians should minister to others with our works and prayers. It’s our duty as Christians to spread the word about Christ.
Today, it seems that more just attend church and think they are done until the next Sunday than actively serve the church. It is difficult to get people to volunteer as teachers and other jobs in the church, even to serve on committees.
Our prayer list at church has many names that are suffering with cancer, as well as other physical and spiritual needs. Please pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
