In My Humble Opinion
Jodi McDade
I am tired of all this election drama, and I’m sure you probably are, too. But, we have 18 days left for us to really understand the enormous stakes that are involved.
This is not an ordinary election that will have little consequences. This election is going to decide the future direction of our lives, our families’ lives and our children’s lives. It will determine if the United States of America continues to be a leader of the free world or if it becomes one of the third world countries within the Communist/Socialist states.
Yes, I probably sound like Chicken Little who thought the sky was falling after being hit in the head by an acorn. And many others in both political parties are pushing the same idea. But, we have not been hit by a mere acorn – we have been hit by sledgehammers that we need to pay attention to.
If you happen to think that your life is better today than it was four years ago you must be one of the illegal immigrants who is receiving free housing, free medical care, free college educations, free food and clothing allowances, free phones, and free travel. I cannot fathom that any law-abiding American can honestly say the economy is as good or better than it was under the previous administration.
Maybe you think that, as an American, there are no strings attached to all of the benefits you might be receiving from our government, but I can assure you there are.
If you are receiving housing assistance does it pay towards YOUR choice of housing or does it require you to live in certain places? If you are receiving Medicaid are you able to go to the doctor of YOUR choice or are you limited to only the doctors approved by the government? Are you satisfied with the choices the government makes for you?
I realize that many of us who pay attention to the news choose the outlets we watch or read so we may only see one side of the stories. And, of course, we tend to believe exactly what we are told instead of doing our own research. As with anything there are always two sides to every story, and the truth is usually somewhere in the middle.
Politics are ugly – that’s why they compare it to making sausage. We all have our own opinions, but we need to try to open our eyes and hear both sides. Unfortunately, the news media is no longer operated by independent journalists but by people who are only giving their opinions. One example is Sean Hannity. He readily admits he is not a journalist or reporter, but is giving his OPINIONS. Shows like “The View” are also opinion shows. Hollywood celebrities and sports stars are only sharing their opinions.
Unfortunately, we have become dependent on supporting either the Democratic or Republican Party because none of the other smaller parties can successfully win an election. Neither the Democratic or Republican Party has the beliefs or platforms it had 20, 50, 75, or 150 years ago.
The Democratic Party has become the party of high taxes, supporting people who do not work, government regulations, and the most important issue of abortion for all. The Republican Party has become the party of the working class, lower taxes, smaller government, and states’ rights. But many of us have not changed with the times. If you are still supporting the party you were even 20 years ago, Google the platforms and read what they stand for now. You just might be surprised.
Reading the platform of the Democratic Party is particularly important since its candidates are not fully stating what their policies are going to be. Kamala Harris has not held one press conference in the 89 days since she was appointed the presidential candidate. She has done interviews on many opinion-oriented television, radio and social media outlets. She has taken few questions from the public, and when she has the answers were not understandable.
Her running mate, Tim Walz, has answered questions, but they have predominantly been to clarify things in his past that were not correct. (I have now seen that Vice President Harris has agreed to an interview with Bret Baier of FOX News on Wednesday, October 16, so it will have happened before this edition of the paper comes out. You can probably find it on social media.)
In contrast, former President Trump has a record to run on, and it has changed very little since 2020. He continues to promise to return our country to the low taxes, low cost of goods, law and order policies, a strong foreign policy, and a secure/closed southern border. He does not hold back answering questions from the media or the public. He holds press conferences and individual interviews almost daily – and some multiple times a day. He is an open book.
If you really don’t understand the differences between the two parties in THIS election, please consider not voting. If you have researched and understand the differences, please vote for the party of your choice – based on the real issues. If you are confused at all, ask God to give you guidance. He understands the importance of this election and the state of the world going forward.
