A Goodwater man was arrested last Thursday on drug-related charges following a traffic stop.
Chief Deputy Scott Hammond reported that on September 19, Sgt. Ward conducted a traffic stop in the Kellyton area on a vehicle with a switched tag.
Upon stopping, Ward confronted the driver and informed him of why he had been stopped. Ward asked for his driver’s license and insurance and identified the driver as Kyle David Wentzell.
Upon running Wentzell’s information, Ward discovered that he had an outstanding warrant with Goodwater Police Department.
Deputy Payton also arrived on the scene, and Wentzell was detained. Payton began conducting inventory of the vehicle and found a glass pipe with a burnt crystal-like substance in it.
This led to deputies conducting a probable cause search of the vehicle, which resulted in finding 23 used syringes and a baggy of a crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.
Wentzell, 28 years old, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance (meth) and possession of drug paraphernalia. His total bond was set at $7,500, and as of press time he remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
Additionally, a hold has been placed on Wentzell for Goodwater Police Department for its outstanding warrant.
