Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
When the Richville Neighborhood Watch met last week, officers for the next year were elected. Ron Garrison is the new chairman, Wade Brown is vice chairman, and Pinky Reichert stayed as secretary/treasurer.
They meet the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. with a potluck supper starting at 6 p.m. Come out and support your neighborhood. The next meeting will be October 3.
It’s hard to believe that September is over half done. This past week we have had a lot of rain and cloudy days. Also, the temperature has been cooler, so fall is definitely in the air.
This Sunday will mark the Autumn Equinox which marks the first day of fall. The start of fall signals the shortening of days with each day getting shorter. So it’s time to put up those summer shorts and sleeveless tops and get out those sweaters!
I love fall with its cooler temperatures, changing color of the leaves and cool breezes. Look around you to see the leaves beginning to change colors and drop. As you walk or drive, you’ll see swirls of leaves as they drop from the trees.
My Bible verses this week are about changing of seasons. Daniel 2:21-23 reads, “He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him. I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors: You have given me wisdom and power, you have made known to me what we asked of you, you have made known to us the dream of the king.”
Daniel tells us that God is sovereign over all earthly kings.
What does the word “sovereign” mean? Webster defines it as supreme power, especially over a politic body, or freedom from external control. God is supreme! There is nothing that is greater.
Daniel was declaring in these verses that God was in control of everything. He states that God gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.
Earlier in this chapter, Daniel had prayed that God would reveal the king’s dream and its meaning to him. Daniel had faith that God would give him mercy. God gives us the ability to tell our wants and burdens to Him in prayer. However, we should expect nothing when we pray but the gift of God’s mercy.
Often, we limit what God can do for us by our prayers to Him, not asking for His will and mercy. So, when our prayers are not answered exactly as we requested, we think He didn’t answer us. God will always answer us with mercy and what is best for us in the long run. He knows what we need before we ask.
Our prayer list at church has many names that are suffering with cancer, as well as other physical and spiritual needs. Please pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
