Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
I haven’t done much more in the house. I drove with a friend and neighbor to St. Louis. We attended a garlic festival and visited with my daughter.
I use an app called Waze that adapts our route to live traffic, construction and accidents to give us the best route possible. I have driven to St. Louis many times using this app, but this past trip it took us on a new route, and it was wonderful! No heavy traffic, no major cities, average speed was 65 mph.
We did see a glimpse of a shutdown major interstate; if we were not on a state road we would have been caught in the gridlock! I am not a big technology user; however, this tool is a godsend.
I was able to sell a vehicle that needed more work than I could afford to put in it. Now I can afford to have someone come to help me get some work done. I really need to get my soapstone stove installed before winter. Hopefully my help will have the time to get that kicked out quickly because we have family that needs our attention, and my full-time job has requested I travel to our nation’s capital for a project.
I will feel much better about traveling knowing our house is better prepared for winter. And I am also trying to get my fall and winter garden in as I love my cabbage, collards, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, and brussels sprouts.
Events and activities in the area include:
The Equality Volunteer Fire Department (EVFD) is still looking for more volunteers to support their efforts in keeping us all safe. They need as much involvement as they can get so again, please come and support your community by volunteering your time at a great organization.
Also, you are free to join the training on the first and third Mondays at 6:30 p.m. even if just to watch and find out more about what EVFD has going on.
Coosa County Live, Equality Performing Arts Center, Third Friday Karaoke is on Friday, September 20, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. That’s tonight. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. Coosa Live provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
Equality Neighborhood Watch is the fourth Thursday, September 26. Last month we had a fabulous taco bar along with other good eats, received the sheriff’s report and had some good fellowship with our neighbors. Join us this month to learn more about the community and ways to stay alert and safe.
Equality Volunteer Fire Department sponsored Bingo is the last Saturday of the month, September 28. The cards are $1 each, and all proceeds support the Equality Volunteer Fire Department. Come out and have a little fun while supporting the community.
