Central High School recently implemented a program to recognize positive student behavior. The first two recipients of the Positive Behavior referrals were Matthew Shone and Eli Thornton.
Shone and Thornton both work the visitor check-in desk in the afternoon. A teacher had asked them to assemble three shelving units for our storage shed, which they willingly did. But there were three things these young men did that prompted the teacher to submit a positive behavior referral.
Each day until they completed the task, the two students sought out the teacher to finish their task, rather than waiting for the teacher to ask them again. Secondly, when the boys completed the task and the teacher went to check on their work, she was expecting to have to clean up the boxes, but the two students had taken all the trash to the dumpster. They also moved the shelving units to the wall of the shed rather than leave them in the middle of the shed where they assembled them.
Pictured is Shone and Thornton with principal Lee recognizing their positive behavior. Thank you to math teacher and bus driver Mr. Morris Phillips for bringing the suggestion of a Positive Behavior referral to our administration and the Student Government Association for providing treats for the students.
We are thankful to have so many wonderful students at Central High School, and we are thankful for their parents who raise them to do the right thing. We look forward to recognizing many more positive actions by our students in the future.
