An Alexander City man was arrested on seven charges in Coosa County, including resisting arrest, late last month.
Chief Deputy Scott Hammond reported that on August 24, deputies Payton and Dawson, along with the Goodwater Police Department, responded to U.S. Highway 280 to a man with a gun. Law enforcement officers spoke with the complainant, who gave them the direction of the subject who had left the scene.
Officers located the vehicle on Highway 280 and initiated a traffic stop. Upon stopping, the driver reportedly reached behind him and under the seats, appearing to reach for a weapon, when officers forcibly removed him from the vehicle, secured and detained him.
They proceeded to search the vehicle and found a firearm magazine. Officers attempted to locate the firearm on roads that had been traveled before the stop was made, but were unsuccessful.
Officers then met with the complainant again, who went into detail about the situation regarding the individual. The driver, 24-year-old Kwinton Cortez Harrell of Alexander City, was then placed under arrest and transported to the Coosa County Jail.
Ultimately, Harrell was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, assault with bodily fluids, public intoxication, reckless endangerment, attempting to elude law enforcement officers, and destruction of state property by a prisoner.
His total bond for all seven charges was set at $18,000. He was released on bond on August 26 to await trial.
