Don’t forget this is the weekend for the Richville Volunteer Fire Department Annual Labor Day Boston Butt sale. Pickup on tomorrow, Saturday morning, August 31, from 7 to 9. The Inaugural Providence Baptist Church Master’s Classic Bass Tournament will be next Saturday, September 7, at Lake Mitchell, Barrett’s Landing, starting at safe daylight. Weigh-in will be at 2 p.m. The church will be serving hot dogs and chips to all. This is a community event with all proceeds to be paid out in winnings. If you don’t fish, you are welcome to come out at 2 p.m. and watch the weigh in.
Providence Baptist Church had revival last week with good attendance! Bro. Turk Holt brought some great messages. Pastor Andy Dickson blessed us with special music on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday.
Union Baptist Church had a great homecoming on Sunday, August 25. They had a great service beginning with special music followed by a great sermon, then ended with a great fellowship meal.
My Bible verse this week is from one of my devotionals titled “Standing Firm on Your Knees.” Daniel 6:10 reads, “He kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.”
The entire passage is verses 10-18 which tell of what Daniel did when he learned about the king’s law outlawing prayer to the Lord. How many of us would continue to follow God’s commands in the face of danger?
Daniel was consistent in his commitment to honor God. The king was a pawn of the other officials who were jealous of Daniel, but he had to follow his degree. However, God protected Daniel when he was thrown in the lion’s den and brought him out safely. We should strive to be Daniels in our lives, committing to follow God and trusting He will protect us.
This month is the Myers-Mallory Mission Offering for state missions. These two women practiced what they preached and were Daniels in their lives. They were spiritual giants in different time periods.
Kathleen Mallory was one of the early leaders of the WMU, breaking down obstacles to women’s service in missions worldwide. You could say her motto was “every woman should be a soul winner and a generous giver.”
Dr. Martha Myers gave the ultimate sacrifice for being fully committed to Christ and God’s service. She was killed along with two other missionaries in Yemen in 2002. Her life was dedicated to the service and faithful obedience to the Lord. She should serve as an example of what it means to give of yourself so that others may hear with her dedication an inspiration.
Our prayer list at church has many names that are suffering with cancer, as well as other physical and spiritual needs. Please pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
