Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Working from the house again has been fruitful for me. I have been able to get more drywall up, have it taped and mudded. I just need to sand and maybe another coat, and soon I can prime and paint, get the trim back up and floors cleaned up.
Next room I really want to be able to hire someone to come in and do it all because doing it alone has taken so long and I really don’t have that much free time. But then again, I don’t have that much available budget to hire someone to do it all. Maybe I can find someone who will come to help me, that way I can balance my time and my budget and get the rooms finished up so I can invite folks over for visits without embarrassment of renovation clutter.
Events and activities in the area include:
From R. Wade Turner, Equality Volunteer Fire chief, “Equality Volunteer Fire Department (EVFD) is currently looking for candidates for the position of volunteer firefighter/EMS personnel, and/or any combination of that. Experience preferred but not required. Come out and get involved. Please support your community; we would love to have you. There is a job for everybody from frontline fire personnel to EMS to behind-the-scenes support personnel, including support personnel for the first Saturday fundraiser events. We need as much involvement as we can get, so again, please come and support your community by volunteering your time at a great organization.”
Equality Volunteer Fire Department Labor Day Boston butt and rib sale fundraiser is here. Boston butts: $35. Rack of ribs: $30. Delivery is Friday, August 30, 5-7 p.m. and Saturday, August 31, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Equality Fire Department Fire Hall and Lodge next to Quality Food Mart on Highway 9. Coosa County Live has Karaoke Night the third Friday of the month, August 16 – tonight. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. Coosa Live provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
Equality Neighborhood Watch meetings are held the fourth Thursday of every month. Come join us August 22 for information on what is happening around the area from the sheriff’s report to first responder report and all the community announcements with food and fellowship included.
Equality Volunteer Fire Department sponsored Bingo is on the last Saturday of each month, this month being held on August 31, at 4 p.m. The cards are $1 each, and all proceeds go to support our volunteer fire department, so come out for a fun evening while helping the community.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
