Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
School is starting next week on Tuesday, August 6! Be on the lookout for those yellow buses as they pick up and drop off students! The school needs bottled water donated for those afternoon trips on those buses. If you can donate, you can drop off at the school.
Come out and support our athletic programs. The first volleyball game will be on Thursday, August 22, starting at 4:30 at home playing Talladega. The junior varsity and varsity will both be playing.
Then on Friday, August 23, will be our first football game of the season. It will be at home against Sylacauga. Come out and support our team and new coach, Daniel Flowers. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
The next Richville Volunteer Fire Department Bingo will be next Saturday, August 10. Put it on your calendar now. We have a lot of fun while helping out the fire department. They have Boston Butts again for Labor Day weekend for $35 with pickup on Saturday morning, August 31, from 7 to 9.
Providence Baptist Church will have revival beginning Sunday morning, August 25, through Wednesday, August 28, for a total of five services. We also are planning a fishing tournament at Barrett’s Fish Camp on September 7. More details about that later, but put them on your calendar.
I went with my daughter, Leslie Wells, last week to Harvard University. She had a conference, so I explored the university and Boston while she was in classes. I took a tour trolley that gave highlights of historical sites and events, allowing you to get off and explore as you wanted. It was interesting to see and visit some of those sites and museums.
My Bible verse this week is about perseverance and determination. Romans 12:12 reads, “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”
Reading our Bible and praying is helpful for us to find motivation and strength to get through difficult times. This verse inspires hope when sometimes we can’t see any. Our world has so much uncertainty and negativity right now that we can become depressed and want to give up. But with God, there is always hope!
As Christians, we are not promised an easy life with no worries or troubles. We have to find the courage and strength to continue regardless of what we face. Hard work builds character which enables our thinking to be different.
God doesn’t tell us to sit back and wait for good things. We need to get out there and look for the opportunities. If you need a job, it’s not just going to drop in your lap. You have to search for it, possibly multiple times before you succeed.
Projects don’t complete themselves; you have to put work into them for success. So, when you have that feeling of just wanting to give up, keep on, praying and reading your Bible for success. Sometimes, it comes in the unlikeliest form!
Our prayer list at church has many names that are suffering with cancer, as well as other physical and spiritual needs. Please pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
