During a called meeting held July 17, the Coosa County Board of Education approved a handful of personnel matters just prior to the start of a new school year.
At that meeting, with Board Member Jenny Kimbrell absent, the board unanimously approved two certified recommendations and four non-certified recommendations.
With a letter of recommendation from Brandi Lee, Central High School principal, Superintendent of Education David Stover Jr. recommended approval of Daniel Flowers as a physical education teacher and head football coach for the 2024-2025 school year, pending completion of requirements.
During discussion, both Stover and Assistant Superintendent Adam Hopper discussed Flowers’ credentials and how he would be a “great asset” for Coosa County schools.
Also with a letter of recommendation from Lee, Stover recommended approval of Misty Wade as a 10-month counselor for the 2024-2025 school year.
The board unanimously approved both of those certified recommendations.
Regarding non-certified recommendations, with letters of recommendation from Child Nutrition Program Director Pam Jones, the board unanimously approved Christine Walker as an 8-hour lunchroom worker effective July 25, pending completion of requirements, and Erica McVey as a 6-hour lunchroom worker, also effective July 25, for the 2024-2025 school year.
In discussion it was mentioned that McVey was previously employed as a substitute lunchroom worker for the last school year.
Further, with letters of recommendation from Jeff Moore, transportation supervisor, the board unanimously approved Morris Phillips and Brian Walker as bus drivers for the 2024-2025 school year, pending completion of requirements.
Following its regular monthly meeting held July 25, the next regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the Board of Education will be held at 4 p.m. August 22.
