Two men from Montgomery and Childersburg were arrested Sunday on burglary and theft charges from the Stewartville community.
Chief Deputy Scott Hammond reported that on July 21, Deputy Payton responded to a burglary alarm at the Hop-In Chevron in Stewartville. HE discovered the front door glass was shattered and saw a rock inside the convenience store.
After ensuring the facility was clear, Payton reviewed the gas station’s security footage, along with Sylacauga Police Department and Talladega County Sheriff’s Office.
On the video law enforcement officers saw two masked subjects with “very distinct clothing” run to a vehicle on the south side of the building. They were also able to identify the vehicle, which left the Chevron and headed north toward Sylacauga.
The vehicle description was provided to Sylacauga and Talladega County law enforcement to be on the lookout. Soon after, Deputy Payton was contacted by the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office, which had conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle matching that description.
Payton responded to the scene and, inside the vehicle, saw numerous items that appeared to come from the Hop-In Chevron break-in.
After further investigation, it was confirmed that they were items stolen from the Stewartville Hop-In, as well as the masks and distinct clothing the individuals were wearing at the time of the burglary.
The investigation culminated in the arrests of 25-year-old Tyree Tyshawn Hunter of Montgomery and 35-year-old Shameek Devon Marshall of Childersburg.
Each was charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree theft of property. Most of the items stolen from the convenience store were recovered in the vehicle.
Hunter’s bond was set at a total of $15,000, and he was released on bond on July 24 to await trial.
Marshall’s bond was also set at $15,000. As of press time he remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
