Acts 4:20, “For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”
A home-going celebration was held for our dear friend Ms. Cynthia Burton on July 14 at New Home Baptist Church in Rockford. A tribute to her that’s real according with Acts 4:20, for we know for a fact Cynthia Burton was real, and she let it be known.
Cynthia was my real true friend. It is written, and it is real. We could talk about anything, and this is not a cliché. When I say anything, I mean anything, without any conditions. We go way back to Moses and the Jethro days.
We laughed, cried, prayed, and shared our real thoughts with each other. One of the many subjects that we talked about was being real with God. It bothered her to see people pretending to be Christians, and not in a judgmental matter, but real truth.
Her motto was, “If you don’t want to hear the truth, don’t ask me.” Sometimes I would ask her a question. I would ask her, “Why would you say that?” and she would say, “You asked me, and I told you the truth.”
Cynthia was real and comfortable with herself in any conversation and situation. The realist of Cynthia has settled and will forever be in my heart. I honor her today, with much love and respect.
If anyone on earth would be as real as Cynthia Burton, the world would be a better place. My friend is resting in a better world today, and it is real. Oh, how I miss her! My prayers to the family. I love y’all!
Dr. Melvin Ervin officiated the home-going service and did an awesome job. Macedonia Baptist Church of Goodwater must be proud of their pastor. Bishop Jimmy Brooks Jr.; Cynthia’s pastor, of Corinth Baptist Church; did the eulogy, and his job was easy, super and well done. “Easy” because for 27 years as her pastor, Cynthia spoke for herself, and Bishop Brooks acknowledged it with great passion.
He preached from John 14, “Jesus Said He is Coming Back,” whether we believe it or not. He came for Cynthia, and she was ready. We better be ready, because we don’t know when He is coming. Brooks preached with the anointed so powerfully. It was a wonderful celebration.
Let’s continue to pray for the Burton, Kelly, Russell, and Jones families, and all who are experiencing sadness, illness and sorrow.
Happy birthday to Jania (Pretty Girl) Kelly Wade Jones and to all July babies.
“According to me earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it by by life, or by death.” – Philippians 1:20
“Life forces us to build strength, perseverance and courage in tough times.”
