Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
I hope everyone had a great and safe Fourth. I got to spend time with my family at the lake, as well as at my house.
The only downside for the weekend was my granddaughter had a wreck, but was wearing her seatbelt, so she only came out with scratches and bruises. Without that seatbelt, it would probably have been a different outcome.
So, wear your seatbelt, even when you are just running around near home. She was less than 10 miles from her house; you just never know.
It’s hard to believe that school starts in about three weeks. Enjoy the most of what’s left of summer! It’s about time to start buying those back-to-school clothes and supplies.
I hope to have the date of the next bingo in next week’s paper. Also, the Richville Volunteer Fire Department will be selling Boston butts again for Labor Day weekend. More details to follow.
The Coosa County Historical Society will have our quarterly meeting on Sunday, July 28, at 2 p.m. at the Rockford Senior Center. So, mark your calendars and come out and see what’s happening. You don’t have to be a member to attend.
The Old Rock Jail will be closed for the months of July and August. We will reopen on the second Sunday in September.
My Bible verses this week are again from James. James 1:2-4 reads, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
As I read these verses I thought about how sometimes when our faith is being tested, we think God has abandoned us. Not true! If everything always goes smoothly, we get to the point where we think we are entitled to everything. That’s not what God promises us.
Think about a baby that is learning to walk. If we don’t let them try and fail, they will never develop the skills and strength. We can’t carry them around forever; they must learn to walk on their own.
The same is true for us and God. He can’t carry us forever, but He’s there when we fall to pick us up, love us, encourage us, then set us back down to try again.
The word “steadfastness” means the quality of being resolutely firm and unwavering. Other words are constant, faithful and loyal. God expects us to be constant for Him, striving to do all that He wants us to do.
Are we perfect? No, God knows that, but He expects us to try so that we strengthen ourselves to live for Him regardless of the circumstances.
Our prayer list at church has many names that are suffering with cancer, as well as other physical and spiritual needs. Please pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
