Coosa County’s annual Day of Action will be held next Friday at Central High School Coosa County, and volunteers and sponsors are still needed for the event.
Each year the Lake Martin Area United Way joins with other United Ways across the country to participate in a national day of service called Day of Action. This gives area residents in numerous communities across the country to opportunity to “roll up their sleeves and let their actions speak louder than words.”
Coosa County’s Day of Action will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. next Friday at the high school. Lake Martin Area United Way is still looking for sponsors to help with supplies or donations to purchase needed items to support the projects at Central High School. Those interested in sponsoring can contact the United Way office at 256-329-3600.
Those who would like to volunteer to help next Friday can register online at www.unitedwaylakemartin.org/day-action or simply show up on the day of service to be put to work on various projects.
Projects will vary by school, but will include painting, garden and landscape cleanup, general campus cleanup, and more.
The Lake Martin Area United Way also hosted a Day of Action on June 21 at Alexander City Middle School and Horseshoe Bend High School. The agency thanks the 95 volunteers and sponsors who helped in Tallapoosa County for that Day of Action.
For more information on the Day of Action, contact Courtney Layfield at 256-329-3600 or courtney.layfield@unitedwaylakemartin.org.
Lake Martin Area United Way has other fundraising opportunities and events scheduled, as well.
Charity Bingo at Niffer’s Place at Lake Martin is held every Tuesday this month, with a portion of the proceeds going toward the 2025 campaign to support the local United Way’s 26 partner agencies, community outreach efforts and initiatives.
Bingo starts at 6 p.m. at Niffer’s in Dadeville, but those interested in participating are encouraged to arrive early to ensure they get a seat.
Additionally, Lake Martin Area United Way asks those interested to mark their calendars and save the date for the organization’s first ever Burger Battles, to be held October 19 in the parking lot behind the United Way building.
This will be a burger competition and fundraiser, with all proceeds going to support the 2025 campaign to help fund community initiatives and programs, partner agencies and more. Team registration will open soon, and there will be restaurant and tailgate team categories, with cash prizes awarded.
For more information on Burger Battles, call Layfield at 256-329-3600 or Stacey Jeffcoat at 256-307-3949.
