My smart furbabies, Kobe the dog and Smokey the cat.
When I received the notice that my column was due earlier this week because of the Fourth of July I had to make a fast move with all the appointments ahead before this deadline.
I had something else in mind to write about that would take up more time. I took a moment, prayed about it, and the Holy Spirit led me to write about “Good Gifts.” My devotional passage for this day, coming from I Corinthians 12:11, reads, “It is the one and only Holy Spirit who distributes these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have. The smallest gift one might think can be the greatest of all, just look around.
“The smallest bone in the body is the stapes, which is located in the ear and works to send vibration to the inner ear so we can hear sounds. This tiny small bone has a big mighty purpose!
“God purposefully gives each of us a special gift. The body of Christ operates much like a human body with even the tiniest bones working in sync with all the other parts of the body.
“We Christian believers must use our various God-given gifts to work together to further His kingdom and stop wishing for others’ talents and gifts. God knew best when He created us by recognizing and appreciating the uniqueness of our own gifts.
“When we learn that then we can better appreciate the beauty of the body of Christ and understand that every contribution, no matter how small it seems, plays a large role in His grand design. Not one of God’s children is overlooked or forgotten. Each one plays an important role, and no matter how small we serve a mighty purpose in the body of Christ.”
I pray that all church leaders will encourage their members to use their gifts to help build the Kingdom of God. So much is being wasted because we are not using our gifts. People need healing, salvation, etc., and we’re just sitting around waiting for someone else to do it when we have the gift in our mouth to speak it, in our hand for us to touch it.
The same that was done in the Bible days can be done now. The Bible speaks of greater work that can be done now, and we must work while it is still light. No man can work while it is dark.
Let’s not underestimate dogs and cats. Some dogs and cats are smarter than some people. I know many people will disagree with me. However, I know I am right (LOL). I have two smart furbabies, Kobe the dog and Smokey the cat, and they both have special gifts.
When Butch and I are ill (even himself, Kobe), Kobe goes into the prayer room where he never goes, lays down completely different from his normal position and looks for us to come in. When I go in and pray he comes out, but not until I do. He knows he doesn’t belong in there, but won’t come out until I go in.
He never goes in there until he feels something, even before we know we are about to get ill. I’ll tell you the rest next week and about our cool Smokey.
Prayer list: Courtney Carden, Cathy Dennis, Butch Hardman, and other loved ones under the weather.
“Come to church for a faith lift.”
