Union Square News
Ruby Johnson
Everyone has an off day, and today is mine. It’s my day to complain, if we want to call it that. However, I call it facts, opinion and truth of the matter. I am very grateful to God that I have the right to speak the truth and am able to write and have eyes to see the danger of the matter through God’s goodness.
The Coosa County Highway Department really needs more help. Riding on some roads lately discouraged me to the end, especially county roads 40, 18 and 109. I felt like I was driving in a strange land. I have never seen Coosa County roads looking this bad.
Things have really changed since I grew up in Coosa County some years ago. Workers were not getting paid much. Workers worked hard with no complaints and no excuses. But now all you hear is not enough money, not enough workers, not enough equipment, etc., and complaining about how much others make.
Someone needs to step up to the plate and say “Let’s eat, “Let’s play ball” or get off the team, and then you will see how many home runs will be hit. It’s time for us to speak up and do more. There is no time for sleeping in daylight. Wake up and let your light shine so people can see the real truth!
Yes, prayer changes things, but we don’t pray for something we can do something about. We pray for things we cannot do anything about, but give it to God.
There are many things about this county that we can do, and we do not do it. If you don’t believe me and get upset about it, ask Rockford Mayor Scott White. People do what they want to do. Let’s stop being selfish and help each other to find the real truth about real matters.
A songwriter wrote, “If I can help somebody as I travel along. If I can cheer somebody with a word or song. If I can show somebody he is traveling wrong, then my living shall not be in vain.”
One more complaint, and the rest are “thanks.”
Walmart shoppers, please do the right thing. I sat in Walmart’s parking lot waiting for Butch to come out, and I saw 10 people leave their carts right where they removed their groceries in the way where cars and people have to go. What bothers me is the cart holders are right there near their cars. People are lazy and inconsiderate.
Butch and I truly thank God for two special brothers of the Union Square crew, Tim and Thomas Taylor. They are the best neighbors ever! We also thank our distant neighbors, Brian Walker, Texas’ Robert Shaw and Judge Jerry Fielding. Last but not least, our pastor Chris Hill of Clanton. Happy Father’s Day to you all, and to all the men and fathers everywhere.
Congratulations to a sweet special lady Kioka Tuck, who was recently named Stephens Elementary School Teacher of the Year. Kioka is the lovely daughter of deceased educator David and Mrs. Hilda Tuck of Coosa County.
“Take the time to look and see the needs around you and serve others, knowing that when you have served another, you have served the Lord.”
