Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
I hope everyone had a safe and good Memorial Day weekend. Graduations are over, and now school is out for the summer! I’m sure all the students and teachers are excited for the summer. Congratulations to all the seniors who have closed one chapter of their lives and are ready to begin another.
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department appreciates all who participated in the cooking and preparation, as well as those who purchased, for their Boston Butt sale.
The bake sale for the Richville Crafters was a huge success! Thanks to all who donated baked goods for the sale, as well as those that purchased. Everything was sold!
Don’t forget the Richville Fire Department will have its monthly Bingo on Saturday, June 15, at 6:30. Come out and have a fun time while providing support for them. They also sell concessions.
The Old Rock Jail continues to be open each Sunday from 2 to 4 in June except for Father’s Day. We will be closed for the months of July and August, opening back up the second Sunday in September until October 13.
Providence Baptist Church will have Homecoming this Sunday, June 2. There will be no Sunday School, but services will begin at 10 a.m. Donny Cook will provide special music, and Kenny Harris will be the guest speaker. After services a potluck lunch will be served in the fellowship hall. Everyone is invited to attend and stay for lunch.
Brother Andy has been preaching from the book of John on Sunday mornings. This week his passage was 9:1-5 which is about Jesus healing the man who was blind from birth. Verses 2-3 got my attention, and I want to share those which read, “His disciples asked him, ‘Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?’ ‘Neither this man nor his parents sinned,’ said Jesus, ‘but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.’”
At that time, Jewish culture was that suffering such as being born blind was the result of a great sin. However, Jesus used it to teach about faith and to glorify God. Innocent people sometimes suffer.
We live in a world where bad behavior is not always punished, as well as good behavior always rewarded. No matter what our suffering is, Jesus has the power to help us deal with it. We should follow Him not for comfort, but out of love and devotion.
The most important thing we need to get from these verses is that instead of asking, “Why did this happen to me?” or “What did I do wrong?” we should ask God to give us the strength to get us through it.
Again, this week we continue to hear good reports from doctors for those in our community. Our prayer list at church has many names that are suffering with cancer, as well as other physical and spiritual needs. Please pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one.
We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
