Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
I have been feeling like Murphy and his law has been following me lately, stressed over all the things going wrong.
Overwhelming stress affects every part of my life. And after reading Lisa Johnston’s column in last week’s paper, I am going to be following her advice in taking control of my situation, questioning everything, doing some critical thinking, and making some needed decisions.
As I stated a few weeks ago, I have over-committed myself; I suffer from rushing woman’s syndrome, and I need to just say no. Well, that is going to start happening, and I am even going to need to back away from some commitments that are not in my or my family’s best interest at this time and focus on what is best for my overall health.
I would love to be able to help everyone, but as an individual that is not possible, and I am no good to anyone stressed and overwhelmed. I also encourage all those in the area to take a good look at your life and cut out what is not adding value and just putting a strain on you. Better to have a happy and healthy community than a busy and stressed-out community.
I have not heard the official results of the Memorial Day butt and rib fundraiser, but did hear that the extra 60 that were ordered were sold days before the pickup last weekend. Great support to our local Equality Volunteer Fire Department, a much-needed service in our area.
Tomorrow, Saturday, June 1, is the First Saturday fundraising event for the EVFD. Come at 8 a.m. for breakfast, bake sale and rummage sale, and return at 11 for lunch plates and more rummage sale. This event is not just a great way to support our volunteer fire department, but also a great opportunity to stay connected with the community with food and fellowship.
Another great opportunity to stay connected with our community is the Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting held the fourth Thursday of every month. Come join us June 27 for information on what is happening around the area from the sheriff’s report to first responder report and all the community announcements with food and fellowship included.
Coosa Live has Open Mic Night on the second Friday, June 14; Karaoke Night on the third Friday, June 21; and a live performance on the fourth Friday, June 28.
While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. Coosa Live provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
