May 29 & June 1
The 86th Weogufka Alumni Reunion will be held June 1 at the Weogufka High School. Doors open at 5 p.m. with a short business meeting at 5:30, followed by dinner at 6 p.m. in the auditorium. We will be honoring the class of 1974 with a short program immediately following dinner. Dinner will be grilled chicken or barbecue pork with all the trimmings. Entertainment and dancing will be provided by Randy Glenn and Peppie at 7:30 and is open to the public. Dinner reservations will be $25 per person with a charge of $10 per person or $15 per couple for the dance. Admission to the dance without dinner reservations will be $15 per person or $25 per couple. Reservations must be made by Wednesday, May 29, by calling Julie at 256-404-4152. Join us June 1 to celebrate this long-standing tradition.

A yard sale will be held Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day at The Church of God, 140 Coosa County Road 28, Goodwater.
June 1
The Town of Rockford’s Spring Fling will be held Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Join us around Jackson Street and Nixburg Road at Rockford’s playground for vendors, music, food trucks, and an inflatable water slide! Interested vendors can contact Town Hall at 256-377-1076 for more information.
June 3-27
Free summer meals for Coosa youth: Kids 18 and younger eat free. Available at Central High School Coosa County (97 County Road 75, Rockford) and at Goodwater Parks and Recreation (166 Harris Street, Goodwater) June 3-27 on Mondays through Thursdays. June 8
The Weogufka Center will host Muddy Waters Bluegrass Jammin’ and Campin’ on Saturday, June 8. Free admission (we’ll be passin’ the hat for donations). Bring a chair or blanket, come early, stay late, or spend the night. Limited hook-ups $30 per night. Primitive camping $10. Watch for more details to come. Rain or shine event. June 10
2024 Coosa County Heritage Cooking Contest: The Coosa County Farmers Federation Women’s Division announces its annual cooking contest on Monday, June 10. This year’s category is Fruit Salad (non-congealed). Cash prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place winners. All Coosa County Farmers Federation members, age 18 of age and over, will be eligible to participate. Applications with all information can be picked up at the Alfa office in Rockford or send a request to Donna Brown at donnabrn77@yahoo.com. Contest date is Monday, June 10. Dish must be turned in at the Alfa office by 5:30 p.m. for judging.

The SOS Queendom is hosting the Miss Juneteenth pageant as part of the Juneteenth festival to be held at the Blue Emerald at Central Park in Cottage Grove on June 15. The pageant has three categories: Little Miss ages 5-12, Jr. Miss ages 13-16, and Miss ages 17-19. African attire is encouraged, but not required. Entry fee: $20. Coosa County’s Juneteenth Festival will be June 15, 2-9 p.m., held at the Blue Emerald at Central Park in Cottage Grove. Fun games for kids, bouncy houses, fireworks show, ATV rides, Miss Juneteenth pageant, music by DJ Big C, vendors, and more. Vendor fee is $40 for table vendor, $75 for food truck. Informational booths are free. The monthly meeting for the Coosa County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will be held on Monday, June 17, at 10 a.m. at the District Office located at 226 Coosa County Road 157 in Hanover.

Weekly
The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. Monthly
Richville Neighborhood Watch will be held the first Thursday of each month at the fire department, 13185 Coosa County Rd. 14, Rockford, 35136. The gathering begins with a potluck meal at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Come out and see what is happening in your community.

The Coosa County Historical Society will be opening the Old Rock Jail beginning Sunday, April 7, from 2 to 4. The jail will be open each Sunday in April, May and June except for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. It will be closed for the months of July and August, opening back up the second Sunday in September until October 13.
Quarterly
The Hanover Community Club and Neighborhood Watch will now hold quarterly gatherings at Andrews Chapel. These quarterly gatherings are held on the third Tuesday of March, June, September, and December at Andrews Chapel Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited and encouraged to attend. Y’all come!
