As a pilot project, students from select high school online Edgenuity classes visited a partner class at the elementary school each day to practice math flashcards with their buddy student. Some students worked on addition facts, whereas others worked on their multiplication facts.
At the end of the week students took mastery tests for the facts they worked on that week. At the conclusion of the nine weeks students earned sundaes; the more facts they mastered, the more toppings they earned.
Thank you to Ms. Shealey and Mrs. Clark who took their classes from the high school to work with the elementary students, as well as the elementary teachers who participated, Ms. Zachery, Mrs. Waters and Mrs. Smith, as well as the other elementary teachers who implemented a similar program on their own.
We received a lot of positive feedback about how much the elementary students looked forward to the high school students coming to work with them in addition to how well the elementary students did on mastering their facts after the flashcard practice.
Pictured are Makison Parker-Jones and Raven Smith, two of the many students who earned the max toppings because they mastered all their facts. Congratulations!
