Special to the News
Rain did not stop walkers from participating in the Fun Run Walk-A-Thon in Cottage Grove on May 18, or celebrating an old-fashioned May Day.
The day started early with more than 25 walkers ready to walk the 1- or 2-mile course, taking in the country air and viewing the historic churches, cemeteries and school buildings along the way. The alumni association appreciates the people that came out to cheer the walkers on and to donate in memory of loved ones.
The remainder of the day was packed with activities, including tours of the elementary building, horse and carriage rides by Harris Carriage & Caisson, DJ Tucker providing music, the New Home Baptist Church Praise dance team was great, and Kelly Produce had the best vegetables.
Additionally, “Sweet home Alabama” tour bags were handed out, fried fish was sold out at the Grove Concession, and RSVP/Coosa County was on hand with important information.
The last activity was a performance by church choirs, musicians and singers. The music event was like a gospel explosion and May singing all in one, a perfect way to end the event.
The alumni association members would like to thank everyone for their help and support with this fun, healthy tour event in Coosa County. We can’t list all the names, but we know and appreciate you; Sen. Clyde Chambliss, District 3 Commissioner Brandon Davis, Coosa County Sheriff’s Office, our elected officials, churches, sponsors, volunteers, and attendees – thank you.
