Tremaine Dasean Grandison
A Montgomery man was arrested yesterday in connection with a homicide that occurred in the Cottage Grove community earlier this month.
Sheriff Michael Howell reported that his office arrested 27-year-old Tremaine Dasean Grandison at 3:26 p.m. yesterday, May 30. He was admitted into the Coosa County Jail at 6:13 p.m. without incident.
Grandison was charged with murder and first-degree theft of property. At the time of this report, he did not have a bond set.
Howell said that through some evidence at the crime scene along County Road 93 they were able to secure a search warrant in Montgomery. The Sheriff’s Office and other agencies executed the search warrant yesterday, and Howell said they located some evidence at the Montgomery residence related to the Cottage Grove murder.
Howell said the victim, 27-year-old David Tyrell Benson, did not know Grandison.
The Sheriff’s Office had assistance from investigators with the State Bureau of Investigations, led by Lt. Holston, as well as state troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Montgomery SWAT team when the search was conducted.
“I appreciate all those agencies for their assistance in this case,” Howell said.
While an arrest has been made, he said the case continues to be an ongoing investigation. Anyone who has information regarding the case is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4922 or online at www.coosacountyso.org, and anonymous tips are also welcome.
“My prayers continue to go out to Benson’s family and friends,” Howell said. “We hope this brings some sort of closure in a sense to his family and friends.”
As reported in the May 3 edition of “The Coosa County News,” on May 1 the Sheriff’s Office dispatch received a call stating shots had been fired on County Road 93 in the Cottage Grove community. Upon arriving at the scene deputies found Benson laying in the road, where he was injured with gunshot wounds.
Benson was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where he ultimately succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced deceased May 2.
Benson was a 2016 graduate of Central High School Coosa County.
