Special to the News
Once again this year open hearts opening their property to others brought much excitement to youth and adults alike with a special fishing event held last Saturday.
The Barclay brothers, Sam and Oscar, contribute much happiness and love to the Union Square and surrounding communities with their kindness and love for God and His people.
Every year, beginning many years ago, they open their hearts and welcome individuals and church groups to come and celebrate the Fun Fishing Day event at their cabin in Union Square’s neighborhood near Rockford, where children and adults alike can have the time of their lives fishing, playing sports and various games, sightseeing, eating, and more.
This is a free annual event for communities wishing to participate. The Barclays say that God put this on their hearts some years ago, and they answered the call.
This year’s event was held May 18 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The children’s fishing tournament began at 7 a.m., and when finished the adults then joined in and fished as long as it lasted, stopping to eat at 12 p.m. The rest of the afternoon was optional, with guests choosing how they spent the rest of their time on the property.
Although the event is a great deal of hard work for the two brothers, they never complain.
Once it is all over, you would never even know an event had taken place. Union Square community neighbors said that every year the place is sparkling like brand new, and the roaches and bugs have no place to hide.
Union Square residents love the Barclay men. They work hard and love hard, as well. Thank you to the Barclays for once again hosting this event for area youth and community members.
