Dear Editor,
As a child I was taught to respect and obey authority. The Bible tells us to respect those who rule over us. I guess that doesn’t hold true for some of the people of Rockford.
It’s a sad day when a small faction of people, some of whom don’t even live in the Town of Rockford or Coosa County, can override a motion that the members of the Rockford Town Council have debated, discussed and voted on and passed.
Where is the respect for the people who were voted or appointed to oversee our town?
People who are our neighbors and friends. People who give of themselves to consider and gather information to make life better and safer for the residents of Rockford. They don’t get rich in their position. They get paid $50 a month. Many of them hold down jobs and are trying to raise their families in our town. Some are relatively new comers. Some were born and grew up in this town. One common trait is the fact that they all love our town and want the best for the citizens they represent. Yet when a problem is identified and they act on it, a small group with connections feel they have the right to reverse the council’s decisions.
Yes, I have a family member on the council. But I have grown to love this little town and a lot of the people who live here.
I support the Rockford Town Council.
If you support the council members, join me in showing up at the next scheduled council meeting held in the Rockford Town Hall meeting room at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21.
Sincerely,
Dorothy Dunlap
Rockford, Ala.
