As spring continues but it feels like summer I long for some down time, leisure time, vacation time; it is coming, but for now I have a lot of work. Lots of work both on the job, in the store and on the homestead.
However, I won’t do much work this weekend as it is Mother’s Day on Sunday, and I am heading up to see my son, have lunch with him and do some antique shopping. Mostly window shopping, but who knows if I will find an affordable deal.
It would be nice to see or call my own mother, but she passed away in 2019. My son got his love of cooking from her, as well as his super palate taste. She collected cookbooks but never followed the recipes to the letter and if asked for a recipe she would say “.. just add a little of this or a little of that until it tastes just right.” Every meal was from scratch, and she hated repeating a meal. She stocked the freezer and pantry with sale items, grew many of our vegetables in the garden and canned the surplus. To this day I also follow in her footsteps with growing and preserving; I am just not as good a cook as she was, yet I keep trying.
I hope all have a wonderful Mother’s Day honoring and remembering our mothers who in one way or another raised us to the people we are today.
Friday, May 10, (tonight) is Open Mic Night at Coosa Live. Come enjoy an evening out enjoying live music. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. Coosa Live provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
