Central Elementary and Central High School students competed in the annual Coosa County Conservation District poster and essay contest. The elementary students competed in the poster contest only.
The high school students competed in the poster and essay contests. This year’s theme was “May the Forest Be With You, Always!” The posters were judged on their conservation message, visual effectiveness, originality, and universal appeal. There were first, second and third place winners for each grade level. First place poster winners were awarded $50; second place won $30; and third place won $20.
The essays were judged on subject matter, organization, composition, spelling, punctuation, and neatness. First place essay winners were awarded $60; second place won $50; and third place won $40. The winners were also given ribbons. All participants and their teachers received candy, pencils, pens, bookmarks, and/or pencil/pen wrappers.
A huge shout-out goes to Mrs. Janice Kilgore at the Coosa County Conservation District. She does a fantastic job organizing the event. She goes above and beyond to reward the students and teachers. High school science teachers Alicia Thompson, Jacques Mitchell and Mary White guided the students on their poster work while English teachers Daniel Harrison, Jacob Moon, and Breezy Johnson guided the students on their essay work.
At the elementary school teachers Leslie Ward-Wells, Connie Hagan, Paige Alverson, Lisa Compher, Mary Ann Waters, Tricia Mitchell, and Susan Newsome guided their students in their poster preparation. We are very proud of the awesome work of our students and faculty. Thank you to Coosa County Schools science coach Shelley Wood for coordinating the contest between the CCCD and our teachers and students.
