We were busy, busy, busy worker bees at CCCTC last week. Several students from the Auto Services Program and Corneilus Braswell; who requested to take the courses, as well; have been working this nine weeks on the Skid Steer and Asphalt Roller courses offered by the Alabama Community College System’s Innovation Center, by way of our friends at CACC’s Workforce Development Department.
The students completed the online theory modules before being allowed to start the hands-on lab portions where they gained entry level technical skills during a two-day lab experience on the asphalt roller and the skid steer. Can you believe the before and after pictures, and that they were able to accomplish all of that during that time?
As you can see from the pictures, the students had to dig the fill dirt, dump it, roll it, pack it, and smooth it into the finished work. To make it even better, they also get bragging rights that they not only learned a new skill and earned two credentials, but they also gave back to their school by helping improve the campus.
CCCTC is very thankful for Tim Anderson who conducted the lab days for our students. It is obvious that he enjoyed them and that he was invested in making sure they were first and foremost safe while operating the machinery, but also that he poured into them some “life knowledge” regarding soft skills like punctuality, communication, work ethic, and being neighborly while they were learning these technical skills.
With that being said, don’t think that he went easy on them. Each of the students who received credentials had to do five check-offs with Mr. Anderson that verified the student knew proper safety precautions, the basic parts and functions of the machine, how to conduct a pre-operation observation of the machine, demonstrate an ability to perform assignments given by the instructor, and how to properly clean the machine after use.
Congratulations to the students who earned the skid steer certification, Cornelius Braswell, Noah Chappell, John Richcardson, Emma Green, Chelsea Clark, Tranez Marbury, Jadarious Simmons, Matthew Shone, Charles Tillman, Taniyah Riley, Emily Thomas, and Daniel Weathers.
Congratulations to the students who earned the asphalt roller certification, Cornelius Braswell, Noah Chappell, John Richardson, Jadarious Simmons, Matthew Shone, Charles Tillman, Taniyah Riley, Emily Thomas, and Daniel Weathers.
Thank you to auto services instructor Washington and CCCTC Director Hamby for making this opportunity available to our students and sharing pictures and information.
