Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, has not hosted an air show since 2017, and our students were there to participate in the return of the event. Students in Mrs. White’s physical science, chemistry and physics classes were invited to attend the Air and Space Show April 5. The air show was amazing! There were 50 schools and approximately 4,000 students present. Our students were able to participate in several simulations.
Pictured is Katie Meeks using virtual reality equipment. Also pictured with the robotic dog are Katie Meeks, Jasmine Munoz and Emma Jones. In addition, students were able to sit in the cockpit of a refueling plane, as well as peek through the opening in the floor to the back of the plane where they line up the refueling hoses in the air with other aircraft, and interact with the various static displays. This amazing opportunity for our students was made possible by Central High School physics and chemistry teacher Mary White who prepared the students for the trip and Science Coach Shelley Wood who coordinated the trip and submitted pictures and information. We are already looking forward to next year’s Air and Space Show.
